Starting with SKM
The questions most families ask before they join or while they are getting their paperwork in order.
What does Studio Kids Management do?
Studio Kids Management helps connect children and young talent with background acting opportunities for television, film, commercials, and related productions in Southern California.
Our role is to guide families through the basics, help them stay organized, and prepare them so they are ready when a production is looking for a child who matches a specific need.
Who can join SKM?
Any family with a minor child can apply to join SKM. Most of our work is focused on children, and minors remain the heart of our roster.
We may also consider some adults 18 and older if they can realistically play younger, but the primary focus of SKM is still youth background talent.
Does my child need experience to join?
No. Families do not need previous on-set experience to get started.
What matters most is reliability, patience, responsiveness, and a child who can follow direction in a professional environment. SKM helps new families understand what to expect before their first opportunity comes in.
How long does it take to get booked?
There is no guaranteed timeline. Some families hear about an opportunity quickly, while others may wait longer.
Bookings depend on what production companies request, the age and look they need, current wardrobe or permit readiness, and whether your child is the right fit for that specific description.
What should we prepare before opportunities start coming in?
Families should be ready with accurate contact information, a current California Minor Work Permit when required, and a Coogan Trust Account so there is no delay when a production needs to move quickly.
Having paperwork handled early makes it much easier to say yes to a booking when timing is tight.
Where does SKM place talent?
Studio Kids Management works within Southern California. Many projects are in and around the Los Angeles production area, though the exact location depends on the production.
Families should be prepared for local travel within Southern California when a project is a match.

Staying Ready
Answers for families who are already on the roster and want to stay prepared when opportunities come up.
How do work permit renewals work?
Minor work permits must stay current for a child to keep working legally. Families should monitor expiration dates and begin the renewal process before the permit lapses.
SKM helps point families in the right direction, but the parent or guardian is responsible for making sure the permit is active and available when needed.
What should parents expect on a typical set day?
A typical set day may include check-in, wardrobe review, waiting in holding, paperwork confirmation, and instructions from assistant directors or production staff.
Call times can change, and there may be periods of waiting between scenes. SKM prepares families for that rhythm so the experience feels organized instead of overwhelming.
When should we contact the office?
Families should reach out if contact information changes, paperwork expires, scheduling conflicts come up, or a question could affect whether a child is truly available for a booking.
Clear communication helps everyone stay professional with production and prevents last-minute problems.
Why should our Coogan account be ready ahead of time?
A Coogan account protects part of a minor's earnings and is an important part of staying booking-ready.
When productions move fast, having the account already set up helps avoid delays and keeps the paperwork side of a booking much smoother for families.
Eligibility & Policies
Who We Serve
The rules and boundaries families should understand before they decide whether SKM is the right fit.
Is SKM only for minors?
Minors are the core focus of Studio Kids Management, and most of our services are built around helping children work safely and legally in entertainment.
In limited cases we may work with some 18-year-olds or older talent who can convincingly play younger, but that is the exception rather than the standard.
Is Studio Kids Management a talent agency?
No. Studio Kids Management is a management company, not a talent agency.
Families who work with SKM should understand that our role is centered on management support, preparation, and coordination for background opportunities.
Do you work outside Southern California?
No. SKM's work is centered in Southern California.
If your family is not able to work within Southern California, this may not be the right fit at the moment.
Why do you ask families to set up a Coogan account?
SKM asks families to have a Coogan Trust Account in place so minor earnings can be handled properly and so there is less friction when a child is booked.
Even when a family is just getting started, taking care of this early helps keep them ready for real opportunities.
On-Set & Schooling
What Happens During Production
Practical answers about safety, school, and what families can expect once a child is working.
How are school absences handled when a child works?
For working minors, school obligations still matter. In many cases, the work permit process and on-set schooling requirements help make sure children continue their studies while they are away from campus.
That usually means a child completes schoolwork, and sometimes additional assigned work, during the production day so they are better positioned when they return to class.
How does SKM help keep kids safe and supported?
Every opportunity is screened, and Lisa's long-standing relationships help families feel more confident that children are entering professional, vetted environments with appropriate oversight.
SKM also helps parents understand the pace of a production day, which makes it easier to advocate for their child and stay calm in unfamiliar settings.
What if our family still has questions?
That is normal, especially if this is your first time exploring background work for your child.
If you are unsure whether your family is ready, the best next step is to contact the office or begin the join process so SKM can better understand your child's situation and help you move forward.
